Abrasive Types:

There are 2 types of abrasives, Natural and Manufactured or Synthetic.

Natural Abrasives

Minerals or rocks from the earth compose natural abrasives. They are also only used in special types of grinding wheels and honing stones. For example, natural materials include Quartz, Corundum, Garnet and Diamond. Diamond is also considered the hardest material in the world.

Manufactured or Synthetic Abrasives

Materials of various hardness levels are what composes Manufactured or Synthetic abrasives. These are also often considered superior to, if not as effective as today’s natural abrasives. For example, some materials are Glass Fall, Carborundum, and Aluminum Oxide.
